Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This September (2018) I will be cycling 500km from London to
Paris in four days to raise funds for critical myeloma research as part of the Myeloma UK 2018 London-Paris Ride in a 15-strong Amgen team.
Undoubtedly this is the greatest physical challenge I have
ever undertaken! I’ve been involved in helping to co-ordinate a team of riders from my work over the past couple of years but never dreamed that I would actually become one of the riders (fearing I’d never be fit enough) until this year! My ability is still my biggest fear but I’m encouraged by family, friends, work colleagues and anybody who will listen to me who are pushing me on.
Through my work I’ve been touched by many people affected by
- or those that support them - with this particular blood cancer (multiple
myeloma). Unlike many cancers there is no lump or tumour but most of the medical problems are caused by a build-up of abnormal plasma cells in the bone marrow and the presence of paraprotein in the body.
Treatment for myeloma can be very effective at controlling the disease, relieving its symptoms and complications, and prolonging life. Unfortunately, though, myeloma is currently an incurable (terminal) cancer.
Myeloma UK - the charity for which I am fundraising for - relies almost entire on voluntary donations and fundraising events such as this. Its aim is that one day there will be cure for multiple myeloma and it helps to fund the critical research into new treatments to ensure that multiple myeloma patients live longer and with the best quality of life.
With your support, let’s make myeloma history!
