When my son (Riley) was born with (PKU) a very rare and serious lifelong condition it was a very stressful and traumatic time for me and my family. 

PKU affects 1 in 10,000 children, if undiagnosed and untreated this could cause brain damage and other devastating consequences.

Fortunately, we had the best help and ongoing support available and that was provided by Birmingham Children's hospital, in particular the Metabolic Disorders team.  This team undertakes a number of initiatives to help all the children, running conferences, educating schools about the conditions and management of PKU, regular updates to families.  The support is endless.

The Metabolic Team relies heavily on charitable donations and having experienced first hand the excellent care and support that they provide, as a parent I am looking to raise money for this very worthwhile cause, by doing a coast to coast bike ride.

Knowing the kind donations will be used to help other children and families will spur me on to complete this challenge.
