Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

This year I have decided to set myself a new challenge by running my first ever half marathon. I am taking part in the Great Scottish Run on the 1st of October in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. This is a charity that is very close to my heart as I watch my girlfriend Roisin fight CF every single day to have a normal healthy life which most of us take for granted.

CF is a genetic condition which Roisin has had since birth and has been fighting every day since. With only 43% lung function on a good day I watch Roisin taking multiple inhalers, nebulisers, 40+ tablets, insulin injections and chest physio every single day with the added burden of IV antibiotics at least 8 weeks of the year. All of this is done behind closed doors while trying to lead a normal life on the outside making this illness invisible to others.

All of this is why I am determined to raise awareness and support the CF trust so they can continue their research to create more life changing treatments and hopefully one day find a cure to stop CF completely. This research into new treatments is so important to me as it will hopefully allow Roisin and everyone else with CF the chance to live a long and healthy life without limits.
