Story
So over the last year or more everyone has probably got bored of all my walking updates!! But a few of you very nice people have asked why and what I’m doing it for?!?
Well it’s amazing for your mental health, we have some amazing scenery and nature on our doorstep, it’s good for the body and soul and also been one of the few ways you could meet up with friends over the last 12 months! Also on a more serious note I’m on a chemo medication that can lead to some not so nice side effects!
I’ve found that walking has really minimised those side effects, helped keep my weight down, my energy levels up, my cramps, aches, pains, ulcers, weepy eyes (and all the other things only imatanib patients will understand) have been almost non existent!! Also the 5 tumours in my stomach have continued to shrink to the point 4 are no longer visible on CT scan.
Since 1st January I decided to try and complete a virtual walk from lands end to John o’groats (874 miles) using only miles I accumulated in my spare time. I had 1 year to complete this and am currently at around 560 miles (may13th).
I then discovered the resource centre at Dinnington, who have supported me throughout my 5 year battle with cancer , were doing a 23 mile Yorkshire 3 peaks charity walk to help them raise money too keep their doors open after being hit so hard by the COVID pandemic!! People often don’t realise they are a charity run organisation and wrongly think they survive on funding, trust me they don’t and I’ve seen how hard they have to work to keep the place open!!
Dinnington resource centre is the hub of our community and sent out over 3,000 meals during the lockdown to our vulnerable people, did over 500 shopping trips for people who couldn’t get out themselves! Sent out kids packs and Easter eggs to youngsters they knew were having a particularly hard time!!
We need the resource centre and they deserve our support!!
So I will finish my 874 miles at the same time as actually doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks on the 14th of July and would love it if everybody could sponsor me, even if it’s £2 that’s a magnificent gesture!! If you can’t sponsor me then please share this in hope that others will!!
I’ve set myself a target of £500 and if I could hit that it would make all them miles worth while!!
Thanks 🙏 💙 🚶🏻♂️💪🏼
