Story
My story in brief.
In October 2022, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer, Metastatic Melanoma. It would be fair to say, I hit rock bottom. I've never been so scared in my whole life, not just for me, but for my children, I was broken, emotionally and physically.
In November, I was transferred to the Oncology team at St Barts Hospital. I will never forget the very first moment I met my Consultant and Specialist Nurse, because they gave me a sense of hope, which I think I had lost.
I started Immunotherapy, it's a relatively new type of cancer treatment that helps my immune system fight the cancer.
From this point on, St Barts Hospital became my second home, treatments, blood tests, scans and further biopsies. It really was a winter full of hospital appointments.
Over this period I got to meet so many members of staff at the hospital. I gradually began to feel safe and to trust the process, because I was surrounded and thoroughly supported by such kind and compassionate members of staff across a variety of teams.
Over winter and spring I continued treatment, and the latest scan results have shown that every single bit of cancer in my body has melted away. I am officially now in remission.
I have been given a second chance of life.
St Barts hospital will still be a big part of my life for at least the next two years as my Immunotherapy treatment continues every month and regular scans.
I can’t really find the right words to describe how I feel. I am still trying to make sense of what has happened and find meaning to my journey. The real work I have to do now is in the privacy of my own heart.
I didn’t get through this on my own, I got through this with the help of my close friends and family, who, gave me strength when I had none, made me laugh, when I forgot to smile and St Barts hospital who from day one gave me hope and continue to support me in every way. I will forever be grateful, my life has literally been saved.
Which is why, now, I want to give back and raise money for St Barts Hospi
