Story
Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page.
As many of you know, we have been running for a good few years now, chalking up several 10ks and six half marathons between us but a full marathon was always the ultimate challenge which seemed to be a million miles away! However, after turning out to support last year’s fantastic Liverpool Marathon, we just knew it was now or never! We can’t wait to take on this challenge but it is certainly one that we do not take lightly and that we have been working towards since Christmas!
We knew that our efforts had to be in the name of a good cause and who to support has given us plenty of material to talk about on our long training runs! There are so many charities out there deserving of support but we felt strongly that cancer is sadly something that united us, with Leah losing her Dad at a young age to this horrible disease. Years later Laura’s Mum managed to beat lung cancer and this is due to the tireless hard work of charities like Cancer Research. The statistics are that one in three of us will suffer from cancer at some point in out lives and this feels never more realistic than in 2012 when we seem to have encountered more diagnoses and losses to cancer within our immediate and extended circle of friends and family than ever before. The thought of being able to do something practical to help the amazing professionals continue their efforts to beat cancer will certainly spur us on through the gruelling 26.2 mile course.
Thank you so much for visiting our page, we know that we are all regularly asked to donate sponsorship to many causes and it is impossible to support them all so any donation, no matter how small, means so much to us and the families that will hopefully be spared the pain of this awful disease in the years to come.
We will post photos of our training to keep you updated and, of course, of the big race day when it arrives! The fact that we are prepared to post photos of ourselves on the Internet without make-up and with frizzy hair tells you how important your sponsorship is to us and that’s got to be worth at least 50p of anyone’s money!
Thank you so so much again, we are lucky to have friends and family like you!
Leah and Laura
