Story
Hi, Leah here. Me and my brother Nicci will be joined by my godmother Andie, as we jump out an aeroplane at 10,000ft and hurtle towards the ground at 120mph in July 2022. We are doing this to support Moorfields Eye Charity
Update: Due to bad weather, mine and Nicci's jump was delayed and we will now be jumping on 11 August. However, Andie got to do her jump and absolutely loved it which has made us even more excited for our next attempt :)
Moorfields Eye Hospital means a lot to our family. Our mum, Joanne, was diagnosed with eye cancer in February and is currently receiving treatment there. She has received outstanding care during her difficult recovery journey- therefore, we chose to support Moorfields Eye Charity. They invest in sight saving research, innovation and care for patients just like our mum. By us fundraising, it's our way of giving back to Moorfields for looking after her. As well as supporting and raising money for our cause, Andie will be jumping for someone very dear to her and making a personal donation to Cancer Research.
How are Moorfields Eye Charity supporting eye cancer research?
Every year, approximately 1,400 patients are referred to eye cancer services at Moorfields Eye Hospital. We're pleased to be supporting eye cancer research projects such as Professor Mandeep Sagoo (consultant ophthalmic surgeon) who is investigating whether modern ultrasound platforms can be used to distinguish between different types of tumours found inside the eye.
We've also funded Mr Beril Damato to publish findings from his study in an open access journal, which enables researchers and the public to read the findings without a charge. He has developed an acronym and scoring system which helps with the diagnosis of malignant moles at the back of the eye. Your donations ensure we can continue providing the staff, researchers and patients at Moorfields with the best care possible.
Your generous donations will mean so much to all of us- to be able to help us out to make our dreams come true and means the charity can continue to support life changing and sight saving research. So come on, dig deep and donate today!
