Story
On the 29th of September both me & my family lost a very important woman, our granny, mother in law, wife & step-mum. Sepsis & multiple other conditions were the reasons my granny had to leave us to go somewhere better. At 69 years of age, she had so much more life ahead of her, however her battle had been lost & heaven gained a beautiful angel. I have chosen to raise money for Sepsis Trust in honour of my granny as I feel sepsis is unfamiliar to many people. Sepsis (known as blood poisoning) is the immune system’s overreaction to an infection/injury, this leads to the immune system attacking our organs & tissue. If sepsis is not treated it can lead to organ failure & death. Symptoms of sepsis can initially look like flu, gastroenteritis or a chest infection. In adults, symptoms can be: slurred speech, severe breathlessness, discoloured skin, no passing of urine in a day, extreme shivering & muscle pains. Whereas, symptoms in children can be: breathing fast, fits or convulsion, bluish/pale skin, abnormally cold to touch, difficult to wake & rashes that don’t fade when you press it. Just in the UK alone, 245,000 people are affected by sepsis & this can be mistaken by other illnesses before a proper diagnosis. This is why I am doing the 3 Yorkshire Peaks, not only raise money for Sepsis Trust, but in honour of my granny as this would have been something she would’ve loved to do.
