Story
I am taking part in the 2022 Royal Parks Half Marathon for my Mum to support Crohn's & Colitis UK, and your donation can help Crohn's & Colitis UK's mission to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and raise awareness.
My mum was first diagnosed with Crohns back in 2014 after she started experiencing severe stomach pains, frequent toilet visits and constant fatigue.
Since being diagnosed my Mum has been in and out of hospital several times, being admitted anywhere from a couple of weeks to 3 months at a time. She continues to have tests, flare ups/complications with the disease. In 2018 complications increased, and my mum had to have her colon and the majority of her large bowel removed, leaving her to adjust to life with a stoma.
My mum still has flare ups and continues to live with the stoma bag. Having arthritis on top of Crohn’s unfortunately makes things more difficult but she continues to inspire me everyday with how strong she is.
Unfortunately crohns isn’t a curable disease it can only be controlled - This is part of the reason why I want to run for Crohns and Colitis UK. I want to help increase research which can only be done through funding and hopefully find a cure one day to help thousands of people like my mum.
Crohn's & Colitis UK are the UK's leading charity for Crohn's and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. Any donation however big or small is very much appreciated. Thank you!
