Story
New Year, New Challenge, New Team!
From riding the National Parks in 2021 to riding the National Peaks in 2022... Toby, along with his university mate Will, is attempting to hike the National 3 Peaks and bike the 700km between them in under 48 hours. With an unparalelled record as club Transport Sec, we’re delighted that Martin Head will be pairing up with Geoff the Chef (Dad) for mission control from the mobile support unit.
A couple of days later Toby will then ride the 160km bike leg of an Ironman relay, with Pip leading on a 3.8km open water Lakeland swim, and Jonny bringing it home with his first marathon.
It’s been a hell of a commitment from The Simpsons already… since when did Jonny do 15km ‘recovery’ runs, how has Pip not frozen in the North Sea, and what does Toby do for 8hrs straight on a turbo... but it ain’t over yet so please donate to help get us over the line!
We’ll share the story of the motivation, the training and the challenge on Instagram @yorkshire2asia
New Year, New Motivation, Same Causes!
During Ride The Parks, I was humbled and brought to tears (remember Stage 33...) by the support for the challenge, the charities and the family. We raised a staggering £13,677 and here's a quick summary of the impact it made:
THE EVE APPEAL fund the BRCA Protect Research Clinic which aims to improve the prediction and prevention of cancers, especially in families like ours who carry BRCA gene faults meaning cancers are more likely to develop, grow aggressively and reoccur. This year their Forecee (4C) programme developed the WID-Test which looks set to drastically improve prevention of four cancers (breast, womb, ovarian and cervical) and save the lives of young mothers. Their CEO, Athena, and the whole team were in touch throughout the year and were immensely grateful for your donations.
THE WALK AND TALK TRUST aim to improve the physical health and emotional wellbeing of school children and groups of socially isolated adults through the power of walking and talking. I was going through a pretty tough time last year and really felt the impact of walking and talking to family, friends, strangers or even just myself (follow the Instagram @yorkshire2asia for more). Your support last year helped the charity's Big Smile summer fundraising campaign to give 1,000 school children a free pair of walking boots and let them feel it too.
We'd hugely appreciate your support for Ride The Peaks and the Lakesman Relay this year. Thanks a ton!
