Story
How many times have I looked into my closet, overflowing with clothes, and thought 'I have nothing to wear'? But that’s of course not true. I have more than enough choice -- far more than over 13 million people in the UK who live in poverty.
Please help me make poverty unfashionable!
During London Fashion Week, I am participating in the Junior League of London's (JLL) Little Black Dress Initiative. From 20-24 February 2017, I will wear the same black dress for 5 days, to raise awareness of how poverty can limit access to resources, confidence and employment opportunities.
Did you know that 27% of Londoners live below the poverty line? And that poverty is often cyclical, locking successive generations into the trap of low incomes and social exclusion?
The JLL's vision is of a London where each person has the opportunity and means to prosper. It provides volunteers and resources to support community programs centered on eliminating poverty and its effects in London.
For more information on the JLL, please visit www.jll.org.uk. and follow all of the participants on social media using #TheLBDI and #JLLwearsLBD.
I am grateful for any and all support. Thank you for donating to the JLL’s 4th annual LBDI!
