Story
Dear friends,
Yes, I'm going to Africa. Some of you were not that surprised to hear this but you must know I'm going on a volunteering project in Kampala, Uganda.
In July 2009, together with 10 of my classmates and friends in the ESCP-EAP European School of Management we are gonna work on a capacity building project with a local NGO that helps HIV/AIDS affected people.
The sub-saharan region where Uganda lies is heavily burdened by HIV/AIDS so just try to imagine how hard it is for people in these conditions to find jobs, especially when all doors are slammed in their face because they don't have any qualifications, because they have HIV/AIDS or because the organizations that are willing to help them survive only on donations.
This is what our project is for, to work with the staff and management team of this local NGO running a vocational training centre which provides training to HIV/AIDS affected people and other members of the community in trades such as catering, carpentry, sewing and so forth. We would like to see this vocational training centre becoming a self-sustaining enterprise that doesn't depend on central or external funding.
Think of this as supporting the right of these people to a normal life, to work (they are so willing to!), to be respected and also supporting this NGO to continue and diversify a self-sustained project that will help other people in the future.
Your support, generosity and donation would be very much appreciated and might change lives in this Uganda community.
Donation through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Great Generation gets your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
