Story
Myself, Tia and Meghan have decided to participate in Travelteer's volunteering programme in Sri Lanka where we will be volunteering in hospitals and a centre that helps disabled children. As we are psychology and biology/medical students studying at University of the West of Scotland, Strathclyde University and University of Glasgow we have been given the opportunity to work along side mental health and medical professionals in both the Karapitya and Asiri Hospital in Sri Lanka. This will give us experience in our chosen field and give us insight into how different health care is practised around the world. For example, in the Ayurvedic Treatment Centre we will be learning about the traditional healing treatments that have been used in India for over 3,000 years and how they treat stress and anxiety.
We will also be volunteering in the Sambodhiya Centre which is incredibly under staffed. We will be working with children that are mentally and physically disabled through a number of different therapies including, voice training activities, assisting in physiotherapy and english lessons.
Travelteer Impact empowers under developed communities and their environments in Sri Lanka. All funds are raised by volunteers, like ourselves, who participate in the volunteering programmes.
We would love for you to support us in our venture and help us achieve our fundraising goal so this programme can continue to do the outstanding work they do which contributes to helping the lives of many individuals. We would greatly appreciate any donations at all no matter how big or small.
Thank you x
