Story
Silly Fresh here, taking on Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, in September 2023 with a team from Birmingham Uni to support Meningitis Research Foundation. Meningitis primarily affects young children and students.
Just £2 can prevent a close contact (such as house/flat mates) from contracting Meningitis through antibiotics. £10 gives 770 new mums access to lifesaving information for their babies.
Scarily, Meningitis is responsible for more deaths of children under 5 than malaria, measles, tetanus and AIDS combined. The WHO aims to eradicate Meningitis by 2030 – see below for more info.
Our challenge takes place over 9 days in Tanzania as we climb to 5,895m above sea level – higher than Everest Base Camp. With 49% less oxygen than at sea level, it will be a challenge! My exploration levels are more Dora the Explorer than Bear Grylls, so my Bronze DofE skills from one night in the Peak District may be needed…
You can donate here, and there will be many organised fundraising events throughout the year for you to look forward to! A BIG THANK YOU FOR ANY DONATIONS and please spread the word for the Birmingham Uni Kilimanjaro Team.
