Fundraising for University of Warwick
Hey everyone,
On the 23rd of July I fly out to a rural town called Thohoyandou, in the Limpopo region of South Africa, to teach Maths to school children in a team of 6 volunteers for 4 weeks. It is all part of the Warwick in Africa scheme- set up through the University of Warwick, it sends students out to Africa to help educate young people.
Warwick in Africa was originally set up in 2006 and has expanded every year to become a large volunteering project which supports all types of learners and teachers. The scheme started just in Johannesburg but this year we will be changing lives in Alexandra, Soweto, Stellenbosch, Limpopo, Ghana and Tanzania.
You can find out more about the Warwick in Africa scheme by watching the video under my picture- it has Lenny Henry in!
These children live in poor conditions; they are only allowed to go to school if they can afford to buy a uniform, some of them will have lost family members to HIV/AIDS and some will not have eaten for days or will have had to walk for miles before getting to school.
With your help, we can make a difference.
Any donation, no matter how small, is welcome.
I have to raise at least £250 by July 2nd!
Thank you for reading this!
Lauren
