Story

Hello all! It’s that time of year again where I’ve decided to take on another running challenge…

This year I am running Brighton Marathon in memory of my Grandad, Vic, who we sadly lost to Sepsis in January 2021. Due to the covid pandemic, we were unable to see him in hospital or properly say goodbye. Looking back, it really hurts to think about how, if we could have visited him without restrictions, we maybe could have done something to prevent it before he was admitted. This is something I will always think about.

After everything, I learnt a lot more about sepsis from this charity and want to help raise awareness of the signs and symptoms in the hopes it can prevent unnecessary loss of life for many others out there. You’ll likely have seen adverts on tv or on the side of many ambulances with the question ‘Could it be sepsis?’ - knowing what to look for could mean everything and you perhaps wouldn’t know how useful this information could be until it happened to someone close to you.

I’ve set myself a target of £200 and would really appreciate any donations you can spare, big or small!

I’m looking forward to running my second marathon in red, knowing Vic will be by my side the whole way, cheering me on and keeping me going. ☺️

Thank you for reading! Bring on April! 🏃‍♀️

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
