Story
On April 2nd, and April 23rd - I’ll be taking on the London Half Marathon, followed by the gruelling 26.2 miles of the London Marathon! Two marathons in a month - I must be crazy 🙈
This year, I have chosen to support a charity who are working tirelessly in the epilepsy research space ~ Epilepsy Research U.K (ERUK). ERUK are the only UK charity exclusively dedicated to driving and enabling a national programme of life changing, life saving research.
As most of you know, Freddie is diagnosed with one of the most severe, aggressive and rare types of epilepsies, Dravet Syndrome. Over the years, we have raised and invested significant sums of money into the research arm of the charity. We believe that it is only through targeted and specific research, that a real change can be made for Dravet Syndrome, and all epilepsies.
Having considered the current, and planned research projects being undertaken by numerous charities, I have chosen ERUK, and specifically, their projects relating to SUDEP as an area of research to support this year.
Tragically, there are 21 epilepsy related deaths in the U.K. every week. Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) is the term used when a person with epilepsy dies without warning and where the post-mortem fails to establish any other cause of death. SUDEP is 15 times higher in Dravet Syndrome than other childhood-onset epilepsies, and yet it is still so poorly understood, underfunded and under-researched.
This has to change - and it is only through research, that a hope for a better future, with more favourable outcomes can exist.
If you’re able, please support our cause, in whichever way you can.
Together, we can make a difference 💜
