Story
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for Beating Bowel Cancer. I have decided to do something amazing, challenging and most of all, in loving memory of my amazing Dad who sadly passed away at only 48 to Bowel Cancer on 14th August 2015. This came as a total shock to all of my family after only finding out 3 months before that he had advanced stage 4 bowel cancer, we are all absolutely devastated. My Dad is my motivation for getting fit and completing this challenge, I know he would be very impressed, but also a little shocked at my choice of activity! We used to go on runs together around where I live, one of the last things I told him was that I wanted to get fit and go for runs where we used too. So I know, that through all my training for this challenge my dad will be there with me pushing me through and reminding me why I'm doing this!
Not only do I want to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity, but I would also like to raise awareness for bowel cancer. PLEASE ALWAYS GET YOURSELF CHECKED OUT IF YOU ARE CONCERNED! Never leave it just because you're busy with everyday life!
Statistics show that there were around 41,900 new cases of bowel cancer in the UK in 2012, that’s around 115 people every day and is the 4th most common cancer in the UK and the 2nd most common cause of cancer death in the UK.
By donating even a tiny amount of money (because every little helps) we will be one step closer to beating this hideous disease and preventing another family going through what myself and my family have had to go through.
About the Trek: Lying in the heart of old Indochina, the small country of Cambodia is home to dazzling green rice-paddies and jungle dotted with temples and ruins, villages of thatched stilted houses, and small towns where Buddhist temples nestle among graceful French colonial buildings. My adventure starts in Siem Reap, ideally situated to explore the ancient capital of the mighty Khmer Empire. The trek will take me way off the beaten track, through paddy-fields (in almost 100% humidity), dense forest and villages little-changed for centuries to the Sacred Phnom Kulen - the highest point for miles at 487m.This will be a hot and dusty challenge but the finish point at Angkor Wat, is said to be one of the most impressive sights in South-East Asia! I will be camping out in Temples and small villages...(god knows what i'll be trying for dinner when the villagers cook for us!)
I am really really excited about this challenge and I hope you understand how important it is to me to raise as much money as I can for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity.
Thank you all for your support. I will record my journey so you can all see how amazing this trip will truly be :-)
If you are worried, or you know anyone who is going through this, you can find more information on the Beating Bowel Cancer website (below):
