Story
On the 17th October 2012 our lives changed forever. Our little angel, Riley Oliver Taylor Setchell was born sleeping.
On Sunday 14th October 2012 I was admitted to Bedford maternity unit after feeling unwell for a couple of days, I was 22+2 weeks into my pregnancy, up until then everything had been going well.
After an examination it was discovered that I was losing amniotic fluid and I was moved to the Butterfly Suite at the far end of the delivery ward. I was settled in for the night and my husband was able to stay with me on the sofa bed that was provided in the room. The following morning my Consultant visited me and explained that the hope was with complete bed rest to get me to 24 weeks as if our baby was born before this he would not survive. Through out the day we had a lot of support from the midwives, from long comforting chats to endless amounts of tea/coffee and toast for myself and family. By the evening myself and my family felt positive that we had got through day 1. However later on that evening our positivity went out the window when my waters broke. At this point I knew that there was no chance for our baby boy to survive.
After Riley was born we were given as much time as we needed with him and even had the opportunity to have him christened. This was made possible because we had the use of the Butterfly Suite where we could stay until we were ready to go home. Although the experience was very traumatic there is no doubt that this facility enabled us to have the time we needed to share with Riley and create our own special memories of our wonderful long awaited little boy.
We would like to thank the fundrasiers for all their hard work, the end result was the Butterfly Suite it was there when we needed it. We would also like to say a big thank you to the wonderful team of midwives at Bedford Hospital for all their support we could not have got through it without them.
