Story
While on holiday with my sister, I made the (crazy) decision to run a half marathon; 21 km for 21 years. A day after we returned, we received the most devastating news and four weeks later, my mum sadly passed away from cancer with her two girls by her side.
Although I will never be able to put into words the wonderful woman my mum was, I cannot think of a more fitting way to remember and celebrate her life. Throughout my life, she shared her passion for athletics through watching my races, taking me to my training sessions, and even heckling Usain Bolt at the Commonwealth Games finish line. Whilst I cannot promise to display the athletic prowess so easily demonstrated by my mum during her athletics career, I hope to let her passion live on and continue making her proud.
I have decided to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, which was a charity particularly close to my mum’s heart following the passing of my grandad in 2018 – a cheeky but charming man who had the ability to pull off any sweater vest. Parkinson’s UK aims to make a real difference for those affected by Parkinson’s, with every donation a step closer to finding a cure. I am sure my grandad will be cheering me on, alongside my mum, despite the Scottish Half Marathon not quite being The Grand National...
