Story
I have been accepted to go to Rwanda this summer on behalf of Tearfund as part of a programme called International Citizen Service.
I will be working alongside local volunteers on local projects that make a direct impact on poor communities.
On my return I will also be using my new-found skills and my experiences to make a positive difference as an active citizen at home.
It's an amazing opportunity and I'm so lucky to get this chance.
I'll be organising various events over the next few months to raise funds whilst also raising awareness of the programme and the work of both organisations. Please note that all money donated goes directly back to Tearfund and does not go towards the personal costs of my trip as the programme is funded by DFID.
*Tearfund is a Christian international aid and development agency working globally to end poverty and injustice, and to restore dignity and hope in some of the world's poorest communities. Tearfund works closely with the church and other partners to deliver projects that are shaped by the needs and cultures of the local communities in which it works. The organisation also responds to emergencies and speaks out on behalf of the poor by petitioning governments, campaigning for justice and raising the profile of poverty issues.
*International Citizen Service (ICS) is a UK global volunteering programme that supports young people from all backgrounds to make a difference to global poverty. It is open to all 18 to 25-year-olds, is backed by the UK government and is run by some of the most respected development charities in the UK.
