Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On the 29th of October , I will be running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon to raise funds for Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross.
My family have sadly been supported by Our Lady’s Hospice on numerous occasions over the years with the first occasion being 2006 when my aunty Carole passed away from ovarian cancer. Carole was cared for at the hospice in Harold’s Cross and the care and support given to my family at that time was second to none.
In 2020, my aunty Marie was affected by bile duct cancer, a rare cancer where sadly after treatment , Marie was kept comfortable by the hospice nurses in my aunty Eileen's house where both the nurses and Eileen cared for Marie in her final weeks.
As many of you know, in 2018, my Dad was diagnosed with Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML).This is the result of a very rare virus (Jc Virus) which 70% to 90% of us are born with but have a strong immune system to fight it off. This virus has a 1 in a million chance of having any impact on us. Sadly for us, it has left my dad unable to communicate, with very little mobility and a low quality of life.
In June, 2018, the doctors gave my Dad 3 months to live, which is when Our Lady’s Hospice became a big part of our lives. The care and support they have given our family over the years has been exceptional. They have supported us with such kindness and grace through the hardest of times and for that we are forever grateful. To end on a more positive note, my Dad is still with us today and is defying all odds, he truly is our one in a million!
To say thank you for all the support Our Lady’s Hospice has given my family and to help the hospice continue its mission by providing, with loving care, high quality, person-centred health and social care services in the Hospice and community, I would be so grateful if you could spare a few euro, every donation will make a difference, thank you!
