Aspire Channel Swim 2017 11/09/17 - 04/12/17 · 4 December 2017 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

In September I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2017, swimming the distance of the Channel over 3 consecutive days to raise money for Aspire.

Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.

This is a huge challenge - Aspire kindly gives everyone 12 weeks to complete the challenge, but being a glutton for punishment I have decided to swim it in 3 days in my local pool - Newport International Sports Village Swimming Pool. The length of the channel translated into 25m pool lengths = 1416!!!! So I am going to be swimming 472 lengths for each of those three consecutive days...aaah! I will be taking breaks inbetween sections of the swim for rests, drinks and snacks so feel free to watch/support/feed me sweets...haha!

The more that I raise, the more of a difference I'll make, so please be as generous as you can!

Lots of love,

Lauren x
