Story
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June, I found the lump 2 days before my 40th birthday in May, at the end of July I had 4 tumours removed from my breast (totalling 64mm) and lymph nodes removed for biopsy. I’ve never felt ill from the cancer and after surgery felt positive that the cancer was confined to my breast, unfortunately the biopsy revealed cancerous cells in the lymph nodes and in other tissue from my breast, this meant the next course of action was for me to have chemotherapy and have bone and CT scans. The scans revealed something on my liver, I subsequently had an MRI scan and on my first day of chemo (20th September) I found out the good news that the breast cancer has not metastasised (it is curable not just treatable). The resources and support available from Breast Cancer Now have been invaluable, in preparation for my diagnosis to my surgery and what to expect from chemotherapy and life with primary or secondary cancer. One of the most important resources was the story Mummy’s Lump, it made the heartbreaking job of telling my daughter about my cancer much easier in an age appropriate way.
The charity also do amazing work to support the research of breast cancer including secondary breast cancer. It is for these reasons that I want to raise money for a cause that are doing so much for so many.
