Story
I once again have the privilege to volunteer with the Wendt Center's Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC. For over 20 years they have offered grieving children (ages 7-17) an opportunity to enter a safe space away from their everyday lives to gently explore the normal yet overwhelming process of grief. This year, Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC will shift from its traditional format an overnight childrens camp to a day camp for families in the fall. This will provide a unique opportunity to share memories and explore grief in a safe setting where all family members self-expression is heard, valued, validated, and honored. Shifting from an overnight camp to a day camp is a safer approach that also affords the opportunity to integrate families into the healing process in a more meaningful, long-term way, as research shows that children heal more fully within the context of their family. This years family-focused approach will enable children and caregivers alike to receive their own comprehensive supports. Please consider donating in my efforts to work with grieving children and support my Dad, Frank's legacy. Any dollar you can give is greatly appreciated!
