Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

In my journey to completing my first ever marathon I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of my Darling Grandad and in support of all those who are suffering from this deadly disease, every day.

I wrote my application to Macmillan a matter of days after my darling Grandad passed away with lung cancer. Which is ironic really because just over 1 week prior, I was telling him I was going to enter London Marathon to raise money for Cancer. To which he patted me on the arm and said “That would be lovely darling, thank you”.

And now here I am, writing this after being accepted for a place but sadly with my Grandad gone after he eventually lost his fight to Cancer. He certainly did put up a fight though!

As the months went by, I watched this incredible man who I’ve loved my whole life, be beaten by cancer, he couldn’t fight anymore.

Now is my chance to do something to contribute in helping people beat cancer. I want to make an active contribution to the life saving research that is done and the top class care provided every day by Macmillan and give people like my darling Grandad, a better chance.

It’s funny that my Grandad actually encouraged me to run the marathon as he’s spent the last couple years discouraging me from any physical activity, after breaking 3 bones in a period of 6 months. 2 of which being my feet, both of them.

I know what you’re thinking “you’re really going to run a marathon”, I couldn’t ask for your donations if I wasn’t willing to push and challenge myself. Whilst I’ve faced my own physical challenges I’ve never had to fight as hard as my Grandad did, nor as hard as others with this deadly disease do, everyday.

I’m back running, in the gym and playing sport and I want to push myself, physically and mentally and come out fighting to achieve this and to give the smallest thing back to Macmillan and all of the families and people they continue to support, just like mine everyday.

I can’t put into words how much this opportunity means to my Grandad, my family and I because without Macmillan and what they do, I, we wouldn’t have had the most wonderful, memory filled 28 years with my Grandad.

Every one of us is affected by cancer at some point in our lives and this is my time to give back.

So thank you for reading, I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

I won’t let you down!
