Story
My name is Lauren. I am 20 years old and I am a student radiographer.
I have suffered with nocturnal seizures since 22nd June 2019 and it has been an almost 2 year long process of various tests, scans and appointments trying to determine the cause and have a definite diagnosis. I have had 2 neurologists (which can be confusing and take some adjusting), been on 3 different medications and am currently waiting for an appointment that is 11 months late.
Having seizures has affected all aspects of my life, such as having partial memory loss, physical weakness & pain and being unable to drive for a couple of years. It also affects me mentally & emotionally. I feel that if I were to have a clear cause & diagnosis I would feel at peace with my condition and so would the people around me such as family & friends.
The reason for not having a diagnosis is because there is a lack of research into the condition which is where this charity steps in.....
I am raising money for an amazing charity called Epilepsy Society who devote their time and effort into the research of causes & diagnosis of various types of epilepsy/seizures. The charity also make the quality of life of an individual suffering with epilepsy as good as they possibly can.
I will be 1 year seizure free on 13th May 2021, and to mark the occasion, I am doing a 6km walk/cycle everyday for 100 days from 8th of March 2021. My thoughts behind this were that there are 525,600 minutes in a year, so doing 6km for 100 days will total to 600,000 metres covered, more than the total minutes in 1 year.
In order to complete every day, I will walk/cycle the distance or I will use the distance I have walked while on my clinical placement as it will be hard to go for a walk/cycle after a shift, which is why I am starting my fundraiser earlier than my 1 year free date.
I hope and aim to raise more than £500 to make a massive difference to the charity. Please support and contribute, even sharing my fundraiser would be a massive help!
