Story
I’m going to be running 5km everyday in March to raise money for Endometriosis UK. March is Endometriosis Awareness Month so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to raise some money for a good cause and to get me off the couch 🐷.
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease which affects 1 in 10 women. Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow elsewhere in the body. There is no way of preventing endometriosis, the cause is unknown and there is no cure 💔.
When I was diagnosed in 2017, I had no idea what endometriosis was or the impact it would have on my life. I suffer with severe endometriosis which dominates my pelvic area. This affects my organs and the disease infiltrates my bowel. Without going into too much detail, to treat my case I would require extensive open surgery which would involve dissecting some of my bowel. This highlights the severity of the condition and I know there are women out there who have it even worse. Having severe endometriosis means you’re in some form of discomfort or pain most days. Not to mention the impact it can have on your mental health.
I was looking forward to the surgery, but after discussing the possible long term risks and unfortunately the long wait because of the pandemic, I’ve decided to put the surgery on hold for now.
Living with the condition has been really hard the last year or so (the emotional rollercoaster has been wild 😬) but I’m really lucky that I have got so many caring and supportive people around me. Unfortunately, there will be women out there who suffer alone. Endometriosis UK are a source of information & support. They raise awareness and are involved with research so please donate what you can to help them help others.
Thanks for taking the time to read this ♥️
