Lauren's 100km walk for Breast Cancer Now

Peak District Challenge 2021 · 3 July 2021 ·
I am walking an ultramarathon (100km) this July to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Now after my own battle with it.
Here's my journey so far...
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2019 aged 33. My daughters were just 2 and 4.
I found a lump and had it checked over a year before but nothing was detected on my original scan. I went back again and this time they took a biopsy which showed I had cancer. They operated 3 weeks later and removed 4 tumors and pre cancerous cells. 5 weeks of intense radiotherapy and my core treatment was luckily successful. I now have 1 clear scan under my belt too.
The reality hit me after treatment and I didn't cope well, I decided I needed to focus on something positive and raise awareness for other women in my situation. I signed up to complete a bike ride from London to Amsterdam but that was postponed due to covid so, I'm turning my attention this year to the Ultra Marathon instead.
This 100km walk starts in the scenic town of Bakewell and as well as covering 100km there's also over 8000ft of elevation to contend with. It will take somewhere between 24 and 30 hours to complete (so yes that means walking throughout the night) it's going to be tough but I'm doing it in memory of the ones we lost, in solidarity to the ones still fighting and to celebrate fellow survivors who faced the battle and won.
