Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, back in January myself and two friends signed up for the Birmingham half having never ran more than a mile between us! None of us claim to be pro runners so this really has been a challenge for us!
We each have our own charities that we are doing this for, mine being CHICKS. I have chosen this charity as in my line of work I have worked with disadvantged children whom CHICKS could support. I understand the challenges these children face in day-to-day situations and know that getting 'away' for a weekend is something they would love to do!
CHICKS provide week long respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK, who would not otherwise have a break in that year.
In 2012, just over 1,100 children enjoyed a break with CHICKS, but this just wasn't enough. This year they aim to take 1,200 children. More than ever before!
The children they support come from a variety of backgrounds – those living in poverty, children that are being neglected or abused, either mentally, physically or sexually, children who have lost parents or even children who are full time young carers.
Whilst the UK is in a tough economic climate the demand for respite care has grown and we live by our own signature - giving children the Gift of Hope, teaching children that they can achieve anything and reach what may seem like impossible goals. With no government funding and relying solely on donations this is a big challenge!
Here's how your donations make a real difference to the children...
£5 could buy ice creams for two children to enjoy after a fun-filled day out
£10 could pay for a child to go climbing, a great activity which helps to rebuild their confidence.
£20 could pay for a child to ride a horse for the first time: a wonderful experience that they will remember forever.
£50 could provide five children with Memory Bags filled with photos, souvenirs to remind them of their break and a freepost envelope which means they can stay in touch with friends they made on camp
£100 could send a group splashing, sliding and swimming for the day at the local leisure centre
£200 could send a whole camp to an adventure park for the day giving them the opportunity to forget their worries and simply have fun!
Anthing you are able to donate will make a difference!
