Story

“Music at every turn, every page, every chapter- has been my saving grace,” explains country
star Lauren Alaina, always candid about what’s on her heart. “When I’m going through a hard time, I know I can write a song about it and, even when I don’t feel connected to those around me, I can still feel and find a connection through song.”

It’s with that same candor that the Georgia-native approaches her latest collection of songs, co-writing each of the six tracks on Getting Over Him. “This music is empowering,” she says of the new EP. “It feels resilient, more confident, bold and more secure.”

Getting Over Him and the previous Getting Good EP (March 2020) are evidence of Lauren’s evolution as a songwriter and as an artist. The pair of EPs follow her No. 1 smash “Road Less Traveled” from the 2017 most-streamed album of the year for a female country artist, Road Less Traveled, which Lauren admits, “I wrote that album about my family, and about coming into my own and becoming a stronger person.”

Adding a few more years of life experience, the joys and disappointments of relationships come and gone, and a global pandemic to her repertoire, with Getting Over Him, Lauren again digs deep and draws directly from her personal experiences. “This EP
came out of me learning not only to love myself, but to be ok if someone
doesn’t love me back,” shares Lauren. “Even in times of brokenness and sadness, you can still be empowered and get through it and find your voice and say ‘I deserve better than this. I don’t have to put up with this.’”

Emboldened and facing life head-on, Lauren delivers an upbeat, relatable and just plain fun project filled with her signature powerhouse vocals- whether addressing the rat race we can’t seem to slow in “Run,” where Lauren sings “Living life like it’s a highway; we’re all stuck in drive,” or the feisty, what-you’d-want-to-say-if-you-really-could in the clever “If I Was A
Beer.”  Lauren strikes a familiar chord with “Bar Back,” giving an ex his marching orders. Conversely, in “Seen You In Your Hometown,” Lauren exposes the rowdy bad-boy’s side “that makes me wanna stick around.” “There is something really interesting about seeing a person around their family and where they came from because you get to see the core of them. There is something really endearing about seeing their roots and who they are- the truth in them.”

Title track “Getting Over Him” is a cheeky rebound romper with an added dose of devil-may-care attitude provided by country music’s modern-day traditionalist Jon Pardi. “His energy is so amazing,” says Lauren. “Jon loved this song from the get-go and it was so fun to have him do this with me.”

Closing the project is “What Do You Think Of,” an exquisite song featuring Danish pop sensation Lukas Graham. “I am the most nervous about releasing this one because I was so vulnerable when I wrote it,” says Lauren. “This song comes from a really broken place, but it’s part of who I am and part of what I went though, so if I’m going to be honest in my music, I have to share songs like this too. Plus, ”she adds, “Lukas’ vocal on this is ridiculous.”

Known for her big voice, big personality and heart-on-her-sleeve honesty in her lyrics, Lauren brings it all to the table on Getting Good.
