Story
When I first moved to Washington over 9 years ago with a 3 year old, I hadn't even skied on proper mountains before. I had no idea how much I would get into the outdoors via hiking, camping, backpacking, biking, skiing and even starting to climb a glaciated peak or two. To date, the coolest view I've had is climbing to a peak of a volcano and looking out above the clouds. As J grows older, so has my bucket list of exploration and I can't wait to summit Mt. Rainier this summer. As John Muir wrote, “The view we enjoyed from the summit could hardly be surpassed in sublimity and grandeur."
I opted to do this climb via participating in the WNPF 2023 Climb for a Cause. I've seen the growth in adventurers to our National Parks here in WA and know they need extra money to help sustainably keep up with the visitors. Help support me by donating to the WNPF who supports priority projects for Mt. Rainier. The parks give so much, please join me in giving back to these magnificent places and help to make a lasting difference.
If you need any inspiration/fun facts about Mt. Rainier, here goes:
- Mount Rainier became the nation’s fifth national park and the first to be established after the Forest Reserve Act of 1891 that created the U.S. Forest Service
- It's the most glaciated peak in the contiguous US
- Height: 14,411
- First ascent: August 17, 1870
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot to the many who use national parks!
