Story
Like many of us living in lockdown over the past few months, I really need a haircut. Fortunately, I've got an appointment booked for Weds 8 July. And...
I've decided to get it all chopped off and donate it.
Donations made on this page will go to RefugeeEd.
Here's a little about them (info adapted from their website). You can find out more at www.refugeeed.com/.
In Greece today, there are 75,000 people stuck in camps and unstable accommodation, with 60% of children not in formal schooling. Adults also need language education to help them build a future. RefugeeEd helps meet these people's educational needs by partnering experienced teachers with local organisations who need training and mentoring.
But the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on RefugeeEd’s work and thousands of refugees are missing out on vital education. They are no longer able to provide face-to-face support for education organisations, teaching volunteers are no longer able to offer lessons, and as a result of restrictions in England, events and activities have been cancelled which were vital for fundraising. In short: your support is needed more than even before.
Life in lockdown is difficult for everyone, but it's especially challenging for those stuck in a refugee camp. Education brings opportunity and offers structure at a time of such uncertainty. The experience of learning brings people together and fosters a sense of community. It's so important that RefugeeEd can support local organisations to provide a high quality education, both now via online platforms and in person once restrictions are limited.
(I'm also fundraising for two other charities. You can read more and choose to donate to one of them at: https://www.justgiving.com/team/laurahaircut)
THANK YOU!
And remember to check back here after 8 July, when I'll share a post-haircut photo!
