Story
I have been lucky enough to be selected to work in partnership with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) for GOLD 2023 in Barbados!
GOLD projects are designed to be sustainable and make a lasting difference and are tailored to the needs of each partner country.
Some of the objectives for Barbados 2023:
- To increase the capacity of Girl Guiding in Barbados by supporting the recruitment of new volunteers
- To develop the leadership skills of volunteers and young members and increase their ability to respond to change
- To improve the retention rate of young
members in Guides and Rangers - To support Girl Guiding in Barbados to enhance the programme for young members
- To increase the long-term sustainability of Girl Guiding in Barbados
I started in Girl Guiding when I was 6, because I was very shy and awkward, and Brownies did wonderful things for my self-confidence and self-worth. When I was 11, I began volunteering with my old Brownie Pack. Since then, I have gone on to become a qualified Adult Leader with Brownies, and Guides. Just over a year or so ago, I became the Rangers Adviser for Cornwall County; celebrating my 11th year as a Leader in 2022. I cannot begin to explain the positive impact that Girl Guiding has had on my life, and helped me to become the person I am today. I am so excited to bring all of the skills I've learnt in Girl Guiding, and all of the pedagogy and teaching skills I developed as a TEFL teacher to enrich Girl Guiding overseas.
I will be doing various initiatives and fundraising projects throughout 2022/2023, with all donations going toward this wonderful project! Your donations will help us to support the development of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in Barbados and enhance their programme for young girls and volunteers.
I can’t wait to share more about this exciting opportunity with you!
Thankyou for your ongoing support.
