Running VeloPark Half Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support

Your Run for Macmillan · 18 May 2019 ·
Last week Macmillan Cancer support had a direct impact on my life and the life of my Mum. I have decided to support them with my running efforts, even if it's small.
2019 started out with a bit of a shock and cancer became very real for me when Mum was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in early January. Being caught so early she was able to have an operation to remove it and is following on with treatment.
However, we've learned that it's the emotional side of things that can be the real challenge. When Mum was unexpectedly supported at the Macmillan Cancer Support centre in Bristol the other week, I felt so so grateful for their work.
The care, consideration, and effort the staff gave to her at that moment made the world of difference - both to her, but also to me on the other end of the phone feeling helpless miles away. They truly cared, showed empathy and were compassionate. Knowing that Mum had that support brought tears to my eyes. They even referred Mum to counseling, a dietician, and a Nordic hiking club!
I have not run a half marathon before and to be honest, have kept copping out of it because it felt just a little bit out of my comfort zone (I'll whip a 5-7k out once a month). So whilst this is an easy goal for some, this is a challenge for me and has got me committed to a training plan and determined to beat the blisters.
If you would like to donate to this wonderful charity, then it would be a pleasure to have you do so through this means.
