Story
My name is Laura Elizabeth Mahon and I was diagnosed with giloblastoma brain tumour and given the devastating prognosis of just one year to live. I was just 20 weeks pregnant at the time.
That was back in October 2021 now, I’ve had Brain surgery, 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 19 months of chemotherapy. Unfortunately in January 2024 my lastest MRI scan showed progression and new activity in another part of my brain.
I’ve just had radiotherapy again for the 2nd time in less than 2 years. I have an MRI scan in a few weeks to see if this has worked.
I am one of 16,000 people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour annually
I was diagnosed whilst pregnant with my daughter Sienna
Only 25% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour will survive past 5 years
Even less if it’s a high grade cancerous tumour like mine
I have had brain surgery, radiotherapy twice in under 2 years and have done 19 months of chemotherapy.
This will only prolong my life not and save it
I am nearly out of options on the NHS
Brain tumours kill more men, women and children under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
The Brain Tumour Research receives 1% of national cancer research spending in the UK.
This needs to change.
