Story
When deciding how I could ever thank Birmingham Children’s hospital for how they have helped not only our family but many families, there was only one challenge for me- The London marathon, an iconic and challenging run. Nothing can ever thank them enough for how they helped the boys, through the scariest and darkest times they were the shining light to guide us, reassure us and ultimately help our children to get better. They are hero’s.
My brother Lee, although unfortunately no longer with us, also received a lot of medical support from BCH throughout his short life. He would often visit to attend his medical appointments, loved by all staff. After my brother passing away in the same hospital that I found myself in years later with my own boys was a difficult time for us all, especially my parents, bringing back lots of raw memories. However, being there, receiving such specialist care was somewhat reassuring, knowing the boys had the best medical professionals looking after them. We owe so much to them. Every single member of staff were amazing, to the doctors, nurses, play therapists, catering staff, cleaning staff, the list is endless.
After running a half marathon last September, myself and Liam decided to take on the challenge and really push ourselves by signing up for the London Marathon. Training is gruelling, running early mornings, evenings and weekends around our jobs and the boys and their commitments is not easy but knowing who we are running for and why makes it that much more rewarding when we do. Not only will the personal gain of achievement be incredible but knowing we have raised money and given back in someway to a place so close to mine and so so many peoples hearts makes it all more worthwhile.
The charity's mission is to raise the vital funds needed to make a real difference to all who use the hospitals services, offering them the best experience possible. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of people like you, they can help raise vital funds to enable the charity to do more and more every year to take them closer to achieving their vision to provide the best possible facilities and environment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, for their exceptional patients and young people.Only the best is good enough for our sick kids.
Massive shout out to the best running partner who will also be running for BCH with me, my brother in Law, Liam Ralph.
Marathon date is Sunday 2nd October 2022.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated- thank you all so much for your love and support xxxxx
