Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page, basically I've (Laura) roped Jimmy into this run and taken responsibility for the admin, which was part of the deal.

When I approached Jimmy about joining me to do the run, he'd had a couple of drinks after a Saturday game, and it was either the worst or the best time to ask him, turns out it was the best. Jimmy and I have both had family members spend time in the hospice in recent years, George Beadle and Derek Ogle, with my Grandad sadly passing in February. I experienced their amazing care first hand, especially spending the final afternoon there watching Final Score with Grandad, the staff couldn't be more helpful and comforting. Jimmy added how much he values what the staff and the hospice do for everyone in Scarborough, as everyone has a relative that experiences their care, and proudly has an Aunt and Uncle that both work there.

This might not seem a challenge for me (Laura), as I'm sure I'll have sent you a link for a fundraising page for the Great North Run in the past. After the last time I did it in 2019, I absolutely hated it and vowed I would never do it again. So having Jimmy involved, taking the mick out of my slow running times, is really going to help me push as hard as I can this year, whilst also thinking of the memories with my Grandad as I run.

I'm sure many of you will have noticed Jimmy's physical changes since retiring from football, post-match beers and lockdowns haven't been kind, as well as working two jobs and raising two amazing boys. Hopefully people have noticed in recent months the efforts he's been making to change that, which might have something to do with a wedding too. As I knew he was motivated, I thought it would be the perfect time to get him involved with the challenge. Jimmy's already sending me his running times, and wants to make his family, the hospice and everyone in Scarborough who's experienced their care proud!

Please donate whatever you can to help us reach our target, and pop the name of who you're donating for in your comment (Jimmy or Laura).

Thanks, Jimmy and Laura.
