Story
In memory of Laura, Dave Nicholson (Laura’s Sergeant Major at 3 Medical Regiment) will be taking part in numerous events/challenges across the country to raise vital funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Laura went for a swim on Friday 16th April 2021 and sadly passed away following a sudden cardiac arrest. She was 29 years old, a serving medic in the British Army, completely fit and healthy with no warning signs.
She was an absolute lover of life, her laugh was infectious and could be heard anywhere she went - her life really was snatched away from her in a matter of moments and she is missed by so many.
Laura’s heart went to the Cardiac Risk in the Young specialist pathology centre in London for examining and it was found that she had an underlying, hereditary heart condition - ARVC.
The events/challenges Dave currently has booked are as follows:
- January - Virtual 85km
- 15th May - Outlaw Half (1.2 miles swim, 56 miles bike, 13.1 miles run)
- 27th July - Outlaw Full - (2.4 miles swim, 112 miles bike, 26.2 miles run)
Dave will also be drinking zero alcohol throughout this period until 27th July - if he does drink any then he will be doubling the pot of donations.
More events/challenges will be booked throughout the year and will be added onto this page.
Each week 12 or more young people in the UK die from Young Sudden Cardiac Death, most of which are undiagnosed.
Cardiac Risk in the Young are a charity who work to prevent young sudden cardiac death through raising awareness of symptoms/heart conditions, free community screening as well as research in to heart conditions - all of which are funded by donations. They also provide bereavement support to affected families and friends.
Please donate as much or as little as you feel able to so that we can try to prevent others from such a devastating loss and to support Dave through these tough challenges that he has set himself to complete in Laura’s memory.
100% of all donations go directly to Cardiac Risk in the Young through this JustGiving page and will be added to the Laura West Memorial Fund so Laura’s legacy of helping others will carry forward through this charity.
