Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been running on and off for years, never seriously just to keep active, one day I signed up for a race for life, then a Half Marathon and then I was a little hooked. I have run a few Half Marathons over the past 13 years but have always been patiently applying, waiting and hoping for a place at the big one! This year something changed and I was actually rendered speechless when I got a phone call one evening from the MNDA and offered an MNDA charity place for the London Marathon 2022!!!

To say I was shocked that this was my year was an understatement! Currently I’d say I was excited and terrified in equal measure,  having watched the London Marathon at home for years I am truly excited to finally be a part of it. I still question how I will ever complete it?!

When I got over the shock I committed myself to my long term training journey, seeking advice and knowledge from anyone I could find that had run the distance and following every thread about the Marathon I can! I am definitely determined to complete my first and possibly only marathon in London 2022 to the very best of my ability and more importantly in memory of Mum.

Mum died back in 1988 from this cruel disease when we were still children, leaving our whole family to grow up missing a hugely important influence in our lives. It makes me incredibly sad to think that mum never got to be ‘Granny’, to meet my children or my nephews and share in the excitement of her own children becoming parents whilst growing old with Granfer as they had always planned to do.

There’s definitely numerous  times when training has felt a struggle, the weathers against me and I’m just not feeling it. Those times are hard, but thinking back to happy family times before mum was ill really helps to push me forward and win the battle with my mind to continue. I am still here and I am running this marathon in her name to honour her memory.

I am committed to supporting the MNDA in any way I can to raise valuable funds that will be used to support and help families affected by this disease and fund valuable research and hopefully one day a cure!

The journey has begun, I’ve joined a running group for support,  bought new trainers and running kit, been advised to buy better trainers, I now own running equipment for every occasion and have bought countless running belts because it’s seems training for  a marathon requires a lot of snacks!

Any donation however big or small is a valuable donation for the MNDA. Thank You.
