Story
In 2006, my mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. She lived with this diagnosis for 16 years.
This year, her mind and her body said enough is enough and we just said goodbye to her on August 11, 2022.
I attempted to run the London Landmarks Half marathon in the spring of 2020 after I won a ballot entry. As we know, COVID had other plans for 2020 so after training hard, the race was postponed. I should have run this past spring, but I fell off the running bandwagon.
But today, | am recommitting myself in honor of my mama. She always admired that I didn't give up on things that I set my mind to. So now, I pledge that I will do this race, walk or run. I won't give up and will raise money for Parkinson's research in her name.
I know how great running made me feel in '19/'20 and feel that it can be a great therapy tool in helping me heal from this immense loss.
I will raise money and run for Parkinson's UK, a charity working to find a cure and improve life for everybody affected by the disease. Thank you for your support!
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. It's the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, with more than 10 million people worldwide living with the disease today.
