Story
Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to our dear friend Iain 'Twigg,' in December, and it still seems surreal. However his funeral or should I say celebration of his life (because that was what it felt like) showed us even more of the hidden depths to Iain's amazing character and personality and his ability to make everyone smile. He crammed so much into his 33 years gracing this earth and we feel privileged to be counted amongst his friends. With that in mind, he has inspired us, as in life, 'to be more Twigg,' (stolen from Jamie - awesome shout!).
Because our dear friend Caroline says it far more aptly and eloquently than we ever could, I have taken the liberty of borrowing her words from Iain's memorial page, to give those who don't know him an insight into what a great man he was, and to share with you what an awesome couple they were.
'A potted history: Iain was born (early, smallish, slightly jaundiced) on 26th December 1980 in Sheffield and he grew up in Dronfield (camping trips, football, friends, Peak District, potholing, cheeky grin, big brother, cubs, Sheffield Wednesday) until moving to Loughborough aged 11 (Loughborough Grammar School, A*s and As, scouts, ventures, football team, Duke of Edinburgh, Isles of Scilly, badminton). After school, where we met (badminton, scouts and then May Ball aged 17, bowties, bad music, cheap wine, cheeky grin) to Sheffield University (BukStop house, architecture, Sunday lunches, big nights out, badminton, canoeing, summers in factories + French campsites + music festivals), then to London to join the FCO (warzone Iraq, G8 Summit in Gleneagles, Whitehall) and to Geneva with me (engagement, mountains, wedding, mountains, skiing, mountains, UN negotiations in New York, mountains, cheese, football, mountains, roadtrips, MBA) and then Delhi (night trains, tennis, human rights, safaris, broken legs, curries, Delhi driving, Asia explorations, bindis and beaches), and back to London (Lake District, bikes, walks, UK trips, family, friends, canoeing, tennis). Always Sheffield Wednesday. Then a brain tumour that left us short-changed. But not necessarily Iain, because he loved every minute of the 33 years before.
There’s just too much to fit into a book let alone a page...'
....With love, Mrs Caroline Twigg xx
Whilst this specific event is for him, it is also a chance for those of you who didn't know him to remember your loved ones and family friends who have passed away as a result of this horrible disease or who are still fighting the fight and thank Macmillan for their hard work and unwavering support through our darkest hours. Cancer affects 1 in 3 people in the UK and macmillan are on hand to provide practical advice, emotional support and much more besides, they couldn't exist without vital fundraising.
Previously I've asked you to dig deep for the MacMillan Coffee mornings, Movember and fun runs, this time the stakes are a bit higher but I'd love it if we not only reach the slightly scary but doable target of £4550, but smash it!!
Colin has now signed up to and we're just waiting for his registration details to come through so we'll need all your support to realise our combined target of £9100! Argh...let the fundraising commence!
