Story
Hey everyone!
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Just Giving Page.
I still can’t quite believe I am writing this! On the 2nd April 2023, I * Little Miss I’ll never ever run a metre over 5k* have challenged myself to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of the incredible charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
Over the past 9 weeks I’ve been pounding the streets in training and there is now only 3 weeks to go which is a little bit exciting but extremely daunting!
I’ve decided to run for Macmillan as it holds a fond place in my heart. Back in August 2016, when I was 35, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer which soon became known to myself and my loved ones as ‘The Melt’. After finding a lump on holiday I didn’t waste any time when I got home to get it checked out. In a matter of moments my world was turned upside down but after a few days of taking it all in and getting over the initial shock, I went into fight mode. This involved a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, double mastectomy & more recently removal of my fallopian tubes for preventative measures (Due to having the BRCA1 Gene mutation).
It was quite the journey to say the least and looking back I had no knowledge whatsoever on how I was going to navigate my way through it all. Macmillan stepped up from the get-go! They made it a little less scary as they guided me through what to do next with everything from financial to physical and emotional support. No matter how big or small the question, they were there to help find the answer and take the stress out of the situation. I honestly was so grateful to them always welcoming me with open arms, offering pamper days and endless reflexology sessions during my treatment!
Six and a half years later there is not a day that goes past that I’m not grateful for being healthy! Not only am I challenging myself to raise funds for an amazing charity but I’m also running to give hope to all you girls out there who are going through treatment at this moment time and to show you that there will be better days ahead.
I would be soooo grateful for any help and support you can give me!
Love Laura
