Laura Notley's London Marathon 2023 Challenge

London Marathon 2023 · 23 April 2023 ·
Thanks for visiting my page. Believe it or not I'm going to be sixty years old in October 2023. That's a major milestone birthday for me. Neither of my brothers Robert or Paul made it that far. Tragically both died suddenly from heart disease when they were in their 50's - Paul at 51 and Robert at 59.
This is the third time I've entered the ballot for the London Marathon. I secretly put it on my bucket list of things to do before I hit sixty. I didn't hold out much hope of making it through once again but unbelievably I won my place! So now I really want to make it count and it therefore seems only natural to run this race in memory of my big brothers and to do some vital fund raising along the way. I'm really not a long distance runner. I'm more of a parkrunner if I can call myself a runner at all. I pretty much jog mostly. The furthest I've ever run before now is 10k - so 26.2 miles is going to be a major challenge for me - a huge step up in distance, endurance and duration. Please wish me luck!
As I go through my marathon journey - the training , the preparation and the big race day itself, I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
My 20 week Marathon training plan began on Monday 5th December 2022. Watch out for regular updates of my progress along the way.
Many, many thanks for your support!
