Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Every day in the UK 87 people are diagnosed with Epilepsy.
Epilepsy is a neurological condition that can affect anyone, at any age. Currently there are 600,000 people in the UK that have epilepsy - that's 1 in 103 people.
There are around 40 different types of seizures and a person can have more than one type.
When I was 15, and without warning, I had a seizure. Shortly afterwards, I was diagnosed with a form of epilepsy. That diagnosis prevented me from learning to drive until I was 18. About a year after I passed my test I was diagnosed with another form of epilepsy. I had to relinquish my Driving Licence and after a break of 2 years I got my licence back again. I am now approaching 30 and thanks to medication I am fortunate that my seizures are under control.
I am raising money for Young Epilepsy by wearing purple on Purple Day (March 26th) to spread awareness.
Young Epilepsy is the national charity supporting children and young people aged 25 and under with epilepsy. They exist to enable children and young people with epilepsy and related conditions to:
- Access education, designed to meet their needs and help them to fulfil their potential.
- Manage their health and well-being through access to the right care and support, at the right time.
- Become as independent as possible.
The concept of Purple Day was initiated by a 9-year-old named Cassidy Megan and was motivated by her own struggle with epilepsy and the first Purple Day event was held on March 26, 2008, and is now known as the Purple Day for Epilepsy campaign.
Please join me in wearing something purple on 26th March, and consider a donation for this worthwhile charity - it really would be much appreciated.
