Story
Two years on from the London Triathlon, I'm ready to don my lycra again and take up my next challenge for charity - the RideLondon-Surrey 100!
Heralded as an Olympic-legacy event, this inaugural bike ride is being organised by cycling-fanatic Boris Johnson, TFL and the London Marathon and will allow participants the privilege of cycling on London's closed roads (as a cycling commuter this will be bliss!).
As one of 20,000 cyclists, I will be starting the race in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follow a 100-mile route through the capital and into Surrey’s hilly countryside (including Box Hill), before finishing on The Mall in central London...and I hope you'll all be there to cheer me on and soak up, what I hope will be, an incredible atmosphere!
To help me up those hills I'm going to be fundraising for a very worthy charity called Shape, which I'm proud to say I started working for at the beginning of 2013. Shape is a disability-led arts organisation working to improve access to arts and culture for disabled people. I'm fortunate enough to have been able to have studied, worked in and enjoyed the arts across the world and do not believe for one second that anyone should face barriers in being able to do the same.
The best thing about all of this is that Shape has secured match-funding from Catalyst Arts, who will double every donation! My target is £500 in the hope I can raise £1000 for Shape....
So, come on fellow culture vultures, artists, actors, musicians, patrons, stewards, volunteers - let's rise above the arts and disability cuts and dig deep and help everyone enjoy the fun side of life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! :-)
