Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi I'm Laura, Justice's mommy!! Justice is 9 and 1/2 months old, he was born 4 weeks early by emergency Caesarian on 18th April 2014 due to pre eclampsia.

Justice had a rough start to life being born with Infant RDS  (respiratory distress syndrome) he didn't have the strength to breathe for himself so immediately got rushed to the NICU, after failing to show signs of improvement he was transferred from the Derby royal NICU to Kings Mill in Mansfield. Gradually he started to pick up the cpap (oxygen support) got reduced and he started to gain strength, we then went through feeding issues and justice was gravity fed via tube so he would gain weigh after losing over 15% of his birth weight!! thankfully our little fighter pulled through.

Unfortunately due to his eventful and rocky arrival justice slowly started to develop a 'flat head' doctors dismissed my concerns and gave me the .. ' it's normal' explanation and told me to try different positioning techniques. So I did. As time passed justice's head didn't improve infact it got worse. I spoke to the health visitor and again got the ' it's normal' explanation.

This was enough, I decided to do my own research and came across technology in motion, I spoke to a lovely guy on the phone who booked justice in for a no cost consultation so I could get another opinion and talk about my concerns.

On 27/01/15 we arrived at tech in motion and we met Sandy, what a fantastic lady!! She listened to my concerns and carried out a detailed examination of justices head and scanned his skull to get a proper diagnosis and to see how bad his 'flat head' was.

The results were quite astonishing but in a strange way a relief that I was actually being told YES there is an issue.

Justice has severe  brachycephaly  at 97% this is because justices skull has become flatter at the back his head is basically as wide as it is long (round) a normal skull should be oval. The flattening plates at the back have 'kinked' his temple plates meaning his ear does stick out slightly ( not that noticeable but the scan can pick up all the slightest measurements)  In my eyes he is  absolutely beautiful but he might not agree in later life when the crewl world starts dishing out spiteful comments and bullying.

However...This is treatable by the use of a TIM BAND, a helmet that he will have to wear 23hours a day for upto 4 months, this will help the skull reshape and grow into a more normal shape. The sad part being this is not a treatment funded by the NHS, these bands and follow up clinic appointments and treatments cost just under £2000.  The NHS say this is purely cosmetic and not a medical cause, therefore they will not support this treatment and that's is why I have had to do my research and go private.

I feel this is something that should be funded this is the rest of my sons life and I will do everything in my power to make it happen. If I can make his future better by making this happen then I will try my hardest to get the funds to provide his helmet.

Thank you for reading Justice's story, please if you feel you can help then please do, you will be making a little boys life a hole lot brighter and he will one day understand what all this is about and I'm sure he will be overwhelmed with gratitude..

Thanks again best wishes from Laura baby Justice & family xx
