Story
On 2 October 2022, three Deloitte runners will be running marathons to raise money for Aberdeen Cyrenians.
First up is Donald Paterson, running in London. Donald, ever an enthusiastic participant in office events, is taking the opportunity to run the famous London marathon. He is very excited to make an impact in the local community by raising money for Cyrenians to help with all the amazing work they do with local disadvantaged people.
Our second competitor, running at Loch Ness, is Andrew Henderson. This greying, overweight tax advisor is an unlikely marathon candidate having last reached peak physical condition way back at the 2002 Scottish Schools Football Cup final, where he excelled in his role as unused substitute. Colleagues and family sceptical of his running prowess have gently encouraged Andrew to start with a more achievable distance (e.g. the end of the street) but never one to shy away from a challenge Andrew has volunteered to go for broke, running full marathon distance for this great charity. Andrew is also running to prove to his daughters he is not the human version of ‘Daddy Pig’ contrary to popular belief. Success will be reaching the finish line before Christmas Day.
Our final runner, also running at Loch Ness. is Richard Lornie. Husband of Deloitte Aberdeen’s Laura Lornie, Richard is the most
serious runner in the bunch, having previously completed 8 marathons including London, Paris and Edinburgh. Richard can often be seen training on the old railway line leaving Duthie Park and rumour has it he runs at a quicker pace than the trains that used to plough along there. Aiming for a sub 3h 40m time, Richard is likely to be tucked up in bed, having read all of War and Peace, by the time Andrew reaches the finishing line.
We are determined to start off our 3 year charity partnership with Cyrenians in style. Please support our runners and this fantastic
charity and others less fortunate at this time of great economic challenge.
Deloitte will offer matched funding for Andrew and Donald.
Deloitte Aberdeen is proud to be fundraising for Aberdeen Cyrenians from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2025. Thank you for your generous support!
