Story

If you’re here you will know that sadly Alistair has passed away from oesophageal cancer.

Having lived 5 years beyond his initial prognosis he was used to finding a way. However, the time came when he knew that his body couldn’t resist the ever growing cancer and although he did not want to die he knew it was time to lay down his weapons and come home for some rest.

Thanks to the Royal Marsden they got him home the day of his decision and St Gemma’s picked us up from there.

They listened to what Alistair wanted and ensured he could stay at home where he wanted to be.  They visited and observed and eventually helped him to settle enough so he felt ready to leave us.  His family were with him, we all had a chance to say goodbye, he was at home and he was comfortable- I don’t think any of us can ask for much more when it comes to our turn.

Your donations will help St Gemma’s continue to make this difficult time as smooth as it can be for more families
