Thank you for visiting my page.
On 27th February 2020 I am taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa’s highest mountain at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) above sea level. I will trek the Lomosho route over 8 days to hopefully minimise altitude sickness. For someone that barely managed 18 hours of glamping last summer, the jump to mountainside camping in sub zero temperatures for days is slightly terrifying!
I will be part of a small team raising money for the John King Brain Tumour Foundation who support the Atkinson Morley Wing of St George’s Hospital to treat brain diseases and disorders. They fundraise for research and to purchase vital neurosurgical equipment not currently funded by the NHS. They also maintain the McKissock Ward Roof Garden.
I was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2017 and was fortunate enough to receive incredible care on the McKissock Ward when Dr Tim Jones performed a successful craniotomy to remove my tumour a few days after my diagnosis. Spending time in the Roof Garden was a really important part of my recovery. Dr Tim Jones is a Trustee of the Foundation and I managed to persuade him to sign my Medical Declaration of Fitness for this challenge.
Brain tumours kill more people under 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the annual spend on cancer research is currently allocated to this disease.
I would be really grateful if you could sponsor me to undertake the climb. Any amount you are able to donate, however small, will be hugely appreciated by the Foundation (and me!)
I am self-funding the entire cost of my trip so every penny you donate will go direct to the Foundation and spur on all the training efforts as myself and fellow climbers trudge up Box Hill with only a few cows to get in our way!
A very big THANK YOU for reading about the cause and any contribution you are able to make.
